Bolivie, terre andine par excellence : Altiplano, volcans, cordillères. Le paysage pourrait être monotone, mais offre une variété de nuances, de couleurs, de lignes qui maintient le voyageur en éveil et qui excite sa curiosité.

A little bit before reaching the north shore of Salar de Uyuni, Tunupa Volcano is standing in the evening stormy light – Un peu avant d’arriver sur les rives nord du Salar d’Uyuni, le volcan Tunupa se dresse dans la lumière du soir avant la tempête.

En feuilletant un topo de montagne, on tombe sur ceci : « En Bolivie tout est possible, rien n’est sur ». Se rendre du point A à B durant ces quelques 10 jours nécessaires pour aller de Colchane à San Pedro de Atacama en passant par Uyuni, c’est partir dans une petite aventure, s’attendre à l’imprévisible. Il faut quitter les habitudes d’un monde trop moderne : non, tout ne se trouve pas sur internet. Dans quel état est cette piste ? Peut on couper par ici ? Que peut on voir par là ?

Mais quel bonheur de se laisser surprendre par l’inconnu, par ces endroits dont les images ne sont pas accessibles en quelques clics.

Bien sur Uyuni ou le sud Lipez sont extraordinaires, d’une beauté inoubliable. Cependant l’émotion que fait naître la surprise d’un endroit dont on n’imagine même pas l’existence n’est absolument pas comparable à ce que l’on ressent lorsque le paysage qui soudain s’affiche devant nos yeux n’est finalement que la confirmation de tous les clichés déjà publiés.

10 jours en Bolivie c’est peu finalement. Cependant la richesse de cette petite expérience est difficilement quantifiable. Les souvenirs se bousculent et se chevauchent, mémoires de ces journées remplies d’images, d’anecdotes et de rencontres.

Et là encore, comme au Chili, comme en Argentine, le vent, le soleil et le sable sont des constantes, usantes moralement et physiquement, mais sculptant lentement le paysage environnant.

Bolivia, Andean land: Altiplano, volcanoes, cordilleras. The landscape could be uniform and dull, but in reality it offers a wide variety of nuances, colors and lines that keep the traveler awake and that excites his curiosity.

While going through a mountain guidebook, one can find this sentence: “In Bolivia, everything is possible, nothing is certain.” Travelling from point A to point B during 10 days, going from Colchane to San Pedro de Atacama through Uyuni, is living a small adventure, being ready for the unexpected. It is mandatory to leave the modern routine behind and get used to discover things by ourselves: no, it is not possible to find everything on Internet. Little or no information is available there. How is this trail? Is it possible to take this shortcut? What can we see around here? What a joy to feel the surprise when entering the unknown, when discovering those places that have nothing on the Internet.

Of course the famous Uyuni or the South Lipez are quite incredible and wonderful. However, it is impossible to compare the exquisite surprise that one can feel in front of a place that we can’t even imagine exist, to what we feel when the long time expected landscape is finally a confirmation of all the already published pictures.

10 days in Bolivia is not that much finally. But the density of this short experience is hard to qualify. Every single day was simply full of pictures, stories, and encounters.

And like in Chile, like in Argentina, wind, sun and sand are constant, wearing out body and mind, but slowly shaping the surrounding landscape.
