Rates

Rates are based on the recommended rates of the Swiss Association of Mountain Leaders (ASAM):

CHF 500.- per full day
CHF 380.- per half-day or evening (maximum 4 hours)

This base rate covers planning, organisation, guiding and safety management.
It may be adjusted depending on the nature of the outing and any additional services included — photography guiding, equipment loan, bivouac logistics, etc. The specific rate for each outing is indicated on the corresponding activity sheet.
The rate does not include transport (car, train, ski lifts, etc.), participants’ personal equipment, food, drinks, packed lunches, or accommodation and half-board for multi-day outings.
The mountain leader’s accommodation and half-board expenses are charged to the participants.

General Terms and conditions

1. Scope of application

Olivier Steiner organises and leads hiking outings, bivouac trips, mountain photography outings and multi-day routes on terrain up to grade T4. These activities are referred to below as “outings”.

2. Contract and registration

Registration can be made by email, via the mountain leader’s website, or by phone. Upon registration, the participant will receive written confirmation from Olivier Steiner (referred to below as “the mountain leader”). From that point, the registration is binding. These general terms and conditions form an integral part of the contract between the participant and the mountain leader.

3. Deposits

A deposit of 50% is required upon confirmation of registration.
The balance is to be paid by bank transfer or TWINT no later than the day of the outing.

4. Cancellation policy

4.1 By the mountain leader

If the mountain leader must cancel an outing for personal reasons (illness, accident, other obligations), participants will be fully refunded without being entitled to any additional compensation.
If the minimum number of participants has not been reached, the outing will be cancelled. Participants will be informed no later than 3 days before the scheduled date.
In exceptional circumstances (extreme weather conditions, particularly high avalanche risk, etc.), the mountain leader reserves the right to cancel or postpone the outing. The decision will be made no later than the day before. Participants unable to attend the rescheduled outing will be fully refunded, without being entitled to additional compensation.

4.2 By the participant

Any cancellation by a participant must be notified to the mountain leader by email. The resulting cancellation fees are as follows:

– Up to 31 days before the start of the outing: 30% of the total price
– 16 to 30 days before: 50% of the total price
– 4 to 15 days before: 80% of the total price
– Less than 4 days before: 100% of the total price

Costs already incurred for accommodation bookings are the participant’s responsibility and depend on the establishment’s own cancellation policy.
A participant who fails to appear at the meeting point, or arrives too late, is not entitled to any refund.
An outing interrupted or cut short by a participant for any reason whatsoever does not give rise to any refund.

5. Insurance

It is the participant’s responsibility to arrange the following insurance cover:

– Health and accident insurance
– Search, rescue and repatriation cover (REGA, Air-Glaciers, Air Zermatt)
– Cancellation insurance
– Third-party liability insurance covering mountain accidents

The mountain leader reserves the right to call for emergency assistance on behalf of a participant if deemed necessary for their safety or health, even if the participant is uninsured.
The mountain leader holds professional third-party liability insurance.

6. Health and safety

6.1 Participant’s responsibilities

The participant is responsible for assessing the difficulty level of the outing and is the sole judge of their own ability to participate. In case of doubt, they must raise this with the mountain leader so that their suitability can be assessed together.
The participant must also disclose any physical or psychological health conditions (surgery, allergies, vertigo, diabetes, phobias, asthma, heart conditions, etc.). The mountain leader accepts no liability for any issues arising during or after the outing linked to an undisclosed condition.
It is the participant’s responsibility to carry any medication or specialist equipment required for their personal health conditions. A medical certificate may be requested in certain cases.

6.2 Mountain leader’s responsibilities

Mountain leader activities are governed by the following Swiss legal framework:
– Federal Act on Mountain Guides and Organisers of Other High-Risk Activities (RS 935.911)
– Ordinance on Mountain Guides and Organisers of Other High-Risk Activities (RS 935.911)

The mountain leader undertakes to comply with these legal requirements and to offer outings within the corresponding legal framework.
For safety reasons, the mountain leader reserves the right to modify or adapt the route during the outing according to weather conditions, terrain, and the group’s ability. Group size depends on the difficulty level of the outing.
The end time of the outing is given as an indication only. Delays may occur due to unforeseeable circumstances, for which the mountain leader cannot be held responsible.
Any additional costs resulting from an extension of the outing due to unforeseeable circumstances are borne by the participants.
The mountain leader cannot be held responsible for theft, incidents, accidents, personal injury or material damage occurring during the outing or during travel to and from the outing area.

7. Equipement

The mountain leader provides a packing list. It is the participants’ responsibility to follow it and to inform the mountain leader in advance if any item is missing. The mountain leader will explore with them the possibility of borrowing or renting the missing equipment at an agreed price.
The mountain leader reserves the right to check participants’ equipment before departure. If serious deficiencies are found, the mountain leader may refuse participation to any person who is inadequately equipped.
In such cases, the participant is not entitled to any refund or compensation.

8. Applicable law and jurisdiction

The contractual relationship between the participant and the mountain leader is governed by Swiss law. The place of jurisdiction is Val de Bagnes, Valais, Switzerland.
