Est-il encore bien nécessaire de publier un nième article sur Cusco et le Machu Picchu ? Il y en a déjà tellement un peu partout sur internet ou dans les magazines papiers.
Faut-il, naïvement, continuer à s’extasier devant la beauté du lieu en ignorant plus ou moins volontairement la place du tourisme dans une région aussi sensible ?
L’attitude du touriste, souvent en décalage avec la culture locale, doit elle encore susciter le débat ? Ne parlons même pas alors de l’invasion de ces lieux à fort potentiel touristique par toutes ces agences et entreprises étrangères qui prennent parfois le monopole de certains services, au détriment des communautés locales qui ne bénéficient pas toujours des retombées économiques.
Quelle attitude adopter lorsqu’on arpente les exquises rues de Cusco, au milieu de ces incroyables murailles Inca, en recherchant un traditionalisme dont beaucoup cherchent à se défaire ?
Quelle est la photo de trop, celle qui fait passer le photographe enthousiaste au rang de touriste regardant la vie locale comme on visiterait un musée ?
Et cette autre photo du Pérou « authentique » n’est-elle pas plus le cliché d’un contraste économique parfois dérangeant avant d’être un témoignage culturel ?
Salinas de Maras, Sacred Valley
Après quelques années passées au Pérou, ces questions prennent de plus en plus de place dans mes voyages. Je n’ai pas de réponse, je constate, bien trop souvent, le manque de respect des visiteurs étrangers qui n’arrivent pas (ou ne veulent pas) adapter leur style de vie durant leur séjour, sans réaliser que c’est manquer une partie de l’expérience qu’est le voyage. Bien qu’essayant de toujours suivre à la lettre une ligne de conduite que je me suis fixé, je suis bien obligé de m’inclure dans ce groupe. Appareil photo à la main, déambuler dans les marchés, les rues étroites, au milieu d’étoffes colorées est toujours un plaisir, alors que pour les acteurs locaux, il s’agit probablement d’une routine nécessaire. Le voyage, le loisir, représente encore un luxe pour une large majorité.
Dans ce monde rapide et moderne, nombreux sont ceux qui défendent une cause. Peut-être faudrait-il ne pas oublier celle d’un tourisme équitable, respectueux des personnes et des lieux…
Malgré tout, chaque virée vers Cusco et les ruines environnantes reste fascinante et envoutante. Les quelques images suivantes (diaporama en bas de page) parleront probablement davantage…

C’était ma première sortie guidée de l’été 2026. Juste des chaussures de marche, pas de raquettes.
